dead battery??

Car wouldn't start last night but it was pouring rain so I waited till this morning to check it out. Now it doesn't try to turn over at all. I tryed to jump it, and it tryed to turn a little , but would not even get close to starting. Is my battery just that dead? Also wondering, is it possible to recharge a battery, like on a boat?

I got stuck at a mall once and had a similar episode. 4 people tried to jump the car, and it didnt help at all. My problem was the distributor cap and battery. Replaced both, and everything worked fine again. Is the starter making any noise at all? Do you have carb or fi? If you have fi, you might have flooded the engine with gas...the spark plugs may be drenched in gasoline. The starter could be shot also. I would check that out too. It even could be the alternator. There could be a s**tload of causes.....these are just a possible few. Good luck.

How can I test or figure out if it is any of those things? Should I just replace the battery to eliminate that one?

Possible causes:
1) How old is the battery?? If over 5 years
old, Replace.
2) Was your alternator charging before?? If not, get it checked.
3) Possible the rain and damp weather shorted
your wires out. Spray with WD-40.
4) Last option, when was your last tune-up??
Try the simple things first, Good Luck

Why don't you try charging the battery first? If you have a bad battery and are going to try to jump-start it, let the car providing the jump charge yours up about 15 minutes first. Then try to start it. If it starts then, put the thing on a charger and see if it'll even hold a charge. It might not, but I'd try it before I just go buy one...
