I have an 84 Firebird with 305 4BBL quadrajet Automatic.
Yesterday on the way home noticed slight rattling noise.
Noise went away and returned 3 min later. Before I could pull over or put car in nuetral. it shut down.
Pushed car 1/4 mile home.
I did notice slight loss of power before 1st rattle.
Car has 130,000 miles. Any idea where I should start.
Thanks. Formula75

I have an 89 RS 305 daily driver, and one day it lost power and shut off while I was driving. It turned out to be the ignition module in the distributor.

yeah make sure it wasn't an oil issue and the motor didn't freeze. Like mentioned try turning the crank by hand

Do you still have power? Maybe you have a loose wire at the battery or starter. Starter could be loose and not grounding. That noise could have been the starter ratling around if the bolts have loosened up on it.

HOT CHICK NEEDS HELP
12/03/04
So far I have replaced timming chain ,gears, and Electronic Ignition Module. Still no start.

I set upper gear with "dot" at top of gear with # 1 cylinder at TDC. This is what 2 seperate repair manuels said to do.

I am being told by others that the repair manuels are wrong and the top gear should have "DOT " at bottom of gear.

I spent 12 hours to do the chain and gears please tell me the repair manuel did not lie to me.

Engine started and sounded great for about 4 sec and shut down now turns over and sounds like its going to start, almost acts like its flooded.

Thanks
HC
