I worked on a car w/ that type of noise, the cause was the bellhousing bolts were loose. I checked his TC bolts and they were fine, so we just removed/cleaned/reinstalled his bellhousing bolts with a dab of Loctite blue and no more noise.

BELL HOUSING!!! Seriously.... I thought is was distributer noise or TC noise but after about a month of that I FINALLY found out what it was when I started having tranny trouble...

i've you have driven long enough with the bellhousing to engine bolts loose, the flywheel will crack. the same thing happened to a friends firebird.

check those along with the TC bolts. good luck.

I never would have believed it, but It happened to me too!
I thought the flywheel had broken off but it was just loose bolts. Severly loose to the point the trans was moving 1/4".
