VSS Bypass Help

I have cut the A-10 brown wire for the VSS going into the computer. I have a lighted rocker switch. I wired the part of the brown wire that was still hooked into the computer to the load on the switch and the other part to the power and of course hooked the ground up. Whenever i turn the switch off the SES light does not come on. Nothing happens. Light just blinks when its on. It blinks faster the faster im driving. Please help!! How can i fix this?

The rocker switch light blinks not the SES

Un-hack your wiring. A switch hooked up like that isn't going to do anything. It is pointless. Splice the wire back together and take the switch out of the circuit so that everything works like it's supposed to.

What is it that you think disabling it will accomplish?

he wants the computer to not know the speed so it never kicks the speed limiter in.

david_0161:

it wont appear to do anything if you put the switch there... except perhaps unlock the TQ converter.

if the switch is blinking, its either wired wrong, or it wont work for this app...

the "blinking" is the VSS signal... you dont want a light on it.

get a normal, unlit switch, or one that lights up seperatly from the circuit....

have the switch "on" when you want the car to operate properly... and "off" to disable the VSS signal to the ECM.

I have a 305 L03 TBI. So are you saying that the switch is what is causing it not to work? I know it is wired right because i can see that it is going through the switch. The tech articlewas for a TBI so i thought it would work for mine....

How scary is that thought?? People with little experience driving on public roads, thinking they are racing with an L03 , at 115MPH...... No wonder car insurance is insane.

Take it to the track, if you can hit 115 there... Great!

And I think by the time you got to 115 the mustang would have clearly beaten you by then...

Ya i know L03 low power whatever. i know and i dont care because its alot better the the 6 cyl i used to have. I dont have enough money for a 350 or all the gas money i would be pouring into it. Just was wondering how to bypass it and im not getting anywhere. Sorry if you find it amusing.

Not amusing, Scary..... Light to light racing is one thing, I used to mess around 0-40 or so when I was 19, but 115 MPH(and trying to go faster) is a whole different ball game.

The most correct and effective way would be to increase the fuel cutoff MPH parameter in the programming. It's not that expensive to get the hardware to do the job. With a little clever reprogramming, you can start saving some fuel, make more power, and possibly hit that speed in a lot shorter distance.

Incidentally, the typical cutoff is 118 MPH, not 115. But, close enough.

according to the serial data coming out of the ALDL port my TBI stopped accelerating at 114 and would not exceed it. (and no it wasnt lack of power. lol )

mine was set at 114.... athough no one seems to mention it... the car cut fuel at 114, and tried to maintain 114.
