My 700r4 is dying...and Slow Iroc after reading your thread i'm thinking...should i just go ahead and build the 2004r? i'm gonna be building up a GN/TTA engine late this summer and be dropping it in this winter(hopefully) Anything to look out for when picking out a 2004r? its gonna be getting rebuilt anyway..i'm looking for high 11's with the TTA motor...
And to everyone else i don't wanna hear "Oh those 2004r's are ****"...then why were they in the GN's and TTA's? Yes i know they were upgraded but i know there are a lot of anit-2004r people out there

I just dont think it belongs in an F-body but anyway...
Just get one out of whatever car you find it in. I hear rumors the GN trans is different, but before you even think about that one think about how easy it is going to be to find a Turbo Regal trans somewhere... yea...
Just take the front pump out, dump the stuff in the case into the nearest trashcan, and go from there. I'd advise looking into making OD much much much stronger than stock, because as is it sucks, it will overheat the fluid at sustainted high speeds (like 90+) in no time flat. Not to mention worn parts...
The Trans-go shift kit is ok, but run a GN governor and play with the weights to get the 1-2 shift at something less than 6500. I heard from someone the GN governer was discontinued, but I had no problems getting one about 6 months ago so I dunno about that. Other than driveshaft/crossmember issues, the only thing I know is different for a fact is the 4 wire connector for the torque converter lockup, the slots on the plastic are in different places and it wont go in unless you force it. You can get the connector or modify the stock one. It may need to have the wires put in different spots too, I cant remember.

A Turbo Trans is different. The Valve Body is special. You can find one, keep checking the parts for sale section at www.turbobuick.com and www.turbobuicks.com
There is also transmission sections where a few 200 Gurus hang out. They will guide you in the right direction. If your planning to move to a Turbo V6, your asking questions on the wrong board
You want an 86-87 Style tranny, the code is "BFR"

If you plan on building it for your chevy motor, then later on dropping in the buick, make sure it has the dual bolt pattern bellhousing.

i'm just wondering if its worth gettng the 2004r set up now instead of rebuilding the 700r4 THEN swapping the entire drivetrain...just need some opinions thats all
I thought you were asking which trans you should use and if there differences between the Turbo and Non-Turbo Trans.
