"They" have been building 500 inch SBCs for years.
All that has happened is, someone has now packaged it so you can just buy it, and you don't have to do it yourself. Kind of takes all the fun out of it.
It requires an aftermarket block with taller decks than stock SBC blocks, to accomodate the longer stroke.

Well the part number for a SB 454 from Jegs is #955-101011. I guess if you had 10K just laying around it might be a fun sleeper engine, of course you would have some crazy 3rgener attempt to run a TPI on top of it then wonder why his stock 305 made as much power.
