Like above I thought with no matter what car if you went from 2:73 gears to 4:11 that you would go faster than going to say 3:42. But I have been reading on the message boards by some that you should get gears that match your cam and engine, is this true. I was going to get 3:73, but if the above is true should I go with 3:42.

What do you mean by faster, going on the highway and topping out or do you mean city driving from light to light?
What you have now is good for higher speeds at lower rpms.
If you want better 1/4 miles and 0-60 times go with the 3.42 or 3.73.Most cars that are for the strip only or usually run in the neighbourhood of 4.11 or more.
You could run 4.11 on the street but their not really pratical for a daily driver.
Hope that helps!

I mean by 1/4 mile time, I don't care about top end, how often do I need to go over 100 mph.

trap speed is more a function of the HP and will only change as the HP does. et's are a function of how well the car hooks and goes straight. another thing is how much time the car spends going the 1320 feet, less time means less time to make HP or to stay in the power band. on the other hand differant gears may allow a car to make more HP or to stay in the power range longer in each gear and go quicker and faster. the main thing on a drag strip is et the MPH doesn't mean much. ever see a fuel car break or shut down in a run and have a 8 or 9 second et and a MPH of 90?
