A/C and idling question...
I just bought an 86 IROC, and I noticed that the A/C is all there, but is just missing the pulley that connects the compressor (?) to the engine. Does anyone know what pulley that is, where I can buy one, and how much it costs?
Also, the car stalls after sitting at traffic lights for several seconds while in drive. The car will drop to 500-700rpm, then shake, then stall. It used to have a 305 TPI, but now has a 350TPI. I'm unsure if the previous owner reconfigured the computer or not. Could that be the problem?
Thanks in advance!

Vaccuum leak?
And sorry, don't know what to say about the pully, I always figured the pully and AC unit was one...

So let me get this straight. There is a compressor there w/ no pulley. So the belt is shorter or rerouted? Nevertheless, you can get just the clutch for the compressor. I don't know how much, but should be less than $50.
I was going to say vacuum leak too. You can also try doing the AIC and TPS adjustment noted on this site.

There is no belt to the A/C. Everything else is there.
The car doesn't stall anymore (think it had something to do with the moron having almost NO COOLANT in it), it just idles REALLY rough. Its fine when you just start it, but after it warms up, it gets rough.

I have had the same problem. Haven't found a cure. But everytime I try to "trouble shoot" the darn car won't stall. I mean my car has its own mind, it will happen like twice in one day and then not again for 2 months, so go figure. The engine was rebuilt late last summer, done in October, didn't stall until about 2 weeks after, but has only done it once since November. When it first did it I thought it might have something to do with bad gas, so I went to a different gas station and used premium. Thought it fixed it but then it has still stalled.
It has had me scratching my head for months. But nothing ever fixes itself so what it going on?

Odd's are the previous owner took off the belt and or pulley because the compressor was bad, but if it was ok then and it has not been used in a couple years it probably is bad now because the seals will go bad if it is not used and you will need a new one.

I honestly think the stalling was a one time thing, because I've let it idle without throwing it back into park, and it only stalled that one time and the SES light popped on. After I filled the coolant, its never done it since.
I read something that maybe the O2 sensor could be causing the rough idle? Its ok when the car starts, but after a few minutes it gets rough.
As for the A/C, I have no idea when it was last started. When the belt is eventually put back on, I'll just hope for the best =P
