what to do with my 82

I've got a 82 trans am thats exceptionally clean but cant get through california smog, it currently has TPI on it and quite a few upgrades, however the tpi just wont run right and I'm tired of dealing with it.

My question to all of you where could it be sold and a person wouldnt have to smog it, with a carb it would run super so what should I do ebay the car/pick-a-part it/ I really cant keep it anymore. but I don't know the costs involved in shipping it, reregistering it out of state, I have it non-oped in california.

what would be a fair value for this car, the interior and exterior are immaculate, body is perfect paint is super nice.

Urban for some reason it fails to reply so I am responding here, I'm sorry but this car is far to nice to ever consider parting out probably one of the nicest 82's you will see around.

have a nice x-mas

If you could sit on it I may be interested early next year (Unless you want to buy a Cobra). You want to find someone in a state that has exemptions for certain years (like MA) or has some high allowances for that year (like MA) or to someone who knows TPI well (like ME) who won't part it out (like ME) and someone who' been looking for an '82 (like ME)... but I can't guarantee a BBC won't go into it. Can't be perfect.

About any state south of the mason-dixon line and east of california.
I don't know how you people put up with those eniro-wacks in that state, I really don't. If they were down here, there would be a bounty on them.

I'm originally from Mich, and moved to Ca.
I know firsthand that car bodys don't last in Mich due to the road salting that they do there. But bodys do last in Ca.
Every time I've driven back there in any car that was over 15 yrs old people couldn't believe that I owned such a "classic"

What I'm getting at is, someone out there wants your car, if it's nice.

A carb swap might help the way it runs, but by the time you did the swap and got the wiring all cleaned up to the point where it's sellable, you will have done the same amount of work as if you'd repaired the TPI.

I think that if you do some searches you'll be able to locate some resource that will help you find a buyer. It may take a while, but it seems like there should be a buyer out there.

Good Luck

yeah, there are plenty of people who'd like your car. It's sad that a 20 year old car can't get a break on smog laws, I thought SEMA was supposed to take car of that.
Let me ask you this, if you upgrade the engine do you have to follow the new smog rules or the one for the car?

Do you mean swap engines?
Swaps are legal, if the replacement is an engine out of a later model.
Swap rules are complex too. There's no simple way to explain.
If you really feel inclined to find out about Ca smog rules, you could do some searches, but it's enough to make your head spin.
Yep, car enthusaists are in a never ending battle with the lawmakers in this state, especially in the more densely populated counties.
Most of the people who live in the cities make a pretty decent wage tho and if they really want to go fast they just buy a new car. Or make the sacrifices to make their thirdgen compliant.
It's not so much environmentalists as it is a cluster of lawmakers who are bent on removing as many "old cars" from the roads as possible.

you know I gave the LT-1 swap some consideration, but I just don't believe the T-5 could live and unfortunately I dont have the time to mess with the car anymore, I'm getting divorced and have to shift my priorities to my 3 y/o son.

Ouch. That sucks. PM some info (and an asking price) and I'll ask around here. I have the luck to always find someone a good deal except myself. Since I have no available cash, I bet I stand a good chance to find someone that wants it.
