looking for coments and thoughts on my combo

383 with a lunati Sledgehammer Crankshaft part number CJ115AN

a set of lunati 5.7" rods

8.5- 9.0 to one CR

afr 210 heads and i am going to have the roller cam custom ground by eather isky or comp for a 6000 rpm shift point and a pro ram intake

it will be NA for a bit then it will be geting some boost

I am using a 700 r4 trans and i will pick the stall depending on what is recomended by comp or isky depending on who i go with for the cam.

I would love to be able be faster than 10.63 (that is what my buddys 1970 mach 1 mustang pulls on a 100 shot)

lighter cars

i'm not saying its not possible to kick his ***, but its gonna take alot more then just a good motor, gonna need suspension and rear diff for that combo, not to mention a tranny that can hold it.

lighten the car up, properly tuned, and a good exaust system

I know all about not having enough traction. I was giong to tub it but desided that it would be better to yank the rear end out and drop in a 12 bolt with a Detroit locker in it also all the stock arms will be ditched in favor of stuff that i will not have to worry getting turned into a twizzler

i know you guys at this point thing i am dreaming but I will beat that stang if i have to blow my life savings trying

i like your attitude!
a true ladder bar rear(maybe tubs)is the way i was thinking of going.not only do you get inboard shocks, but you can run true dual exhaust because the torque arm is eliminated!add some M/T drag radials and the proper offset wheels what rear gear are you using?the 700r4 has a really steep first gear that you can take advantage of with taller tires.if you can squeeze a 28X10.5" tire in there without tubbing it you are doing pretty well(maybe a bit more by moving the shocks inboard).
subframe connectors are a real good deal for improving your launch and will also improve cornering,as well as quieting a generally squeaky car.
adjustable shocks, poly motor mounts, different tire pressures etc.can all affect your 60 ft. times.that's the most important part of the 1/4 mile for most cars(turbos are a bit different). work on these points and you will be a lot closer to the 10's.you better start reading the track rules !

i am having a local shop do a 8 point cage in it and i already have a set of 4.56 rear gears kicking around some where. i plan on using them if they are still in ok shape. they have been around for a while now. I already welded SFC in when i had to replace the floor when i bought the car. o and i talked to my buddy his mach is 3340 pounds with him in it.

If you are going to run 8.5:1 CR make sure you get it supercharged. That is way too low for any cam that could be considered big or maybe even medium. I think 11's or even 10's would be attainable with a supercharged and nitrosed engine. There are cars on here running 11-12's with N/A shortblocks.

well your friends 383 must suck... A 383 with 210's and a properly matched roller cam behind 15psi of boost I bet could produce enough power to hit low 10's... Thats assuming its put together right and is in the proper car.

http://www.geocities.com/64duece/procharged355.html

Check out that link... hes a guy from my area. 847HP from a 355. Car went 9.89 @ 136mph on 26" tall weeny drag radials (the word "traction" is unheardof). On a 75 shot of nitrous it went 9.60's... Now considering this that car is about 500lbs lighter than an f-body but an f-body has better stock suspension and can fit a bigger tire, I'd bet it'd run nearly identical times...

It nice to see every one dose not think I am nuts. People keep telling me that there is no way I can get in the mid tens with a small block under 400 CI and less than 16 PSi of boost. I keep telling them we will see. if a 3300 pound ford with a 351 on a 100 shot can do it y cant i dang my car is only 3380 pounds.

Keep in mind he may be BS'ing you about his engine combo. That stock 351 shortblock may be 400+ cubic inches. I've seen a guy with a mustang claim he had a 5.0 and lay down eye-popping dyno numbers, only to find out from another source that he had a stroker motor.

On a separate note, I know it was probably a joke when you said that about spending all your money on the car. But I've known some people who actually did (do) that. It's not pretty; all their money goes into the car, and if it's stolen, wrecked, or blows up, all that investment is lost. Or something bad happens financially, and they've got no safety net, no money in reserve. So not to preach or anything, but I just wanted to say,

Don't do it!!

It's got no heater/AC,or wipers, which are just comforts, but I'm also running a solid roller cam that's in the .670 lift range(I'm not giving any more up on the cam specs). It's just way too high maintenence for daily use.If I made the 40 mile round trip commute to work, not counting running errands, for a week,I'd have to relash the valves. Not a big deal, but it would be a pain if I had to do it every week. Not to mention it's LOUD.I'd be constantly getting pulled over. It's not a full tubed race car by any means,it's just not practical for daily driving.I sure love getting it out on the weekends, though!
