car stays running with key off

hey, quick question, whenever i go to turn off my car i turn the key off and pull it out and the motor continues to run for like 10 - 15 seconds after the cars been turned off... what may be the cause of this?? thx.

change the timing ought to help and make sure the tune up is good

That is called dieseling...I agree with what Ede said about the tune-up and timing adjustment. When was the last time you did a tune-up on the car?

a 91 dieseling? i would think that if its carbed, if its TBI or TPI & dieseling you have a fuel leak into the engine. if its not dieseling but runs normally for those 10 - 15 seconds after you turn the key off, unhook the cooling fans & see if that stops it.
if you are carbed & are dieseling, then what ede & 91GTA said applies & also check your base idle speed.

Yeah I'd say 10-15 seconds is a lot for it to be "dieseling"

Like mentioned above, unplug the cooling fans and see if it still does it.
