This is why Chevys Rule
Here's the compression test results from my '80 Camaro. It has a 1988 350 Fleet Motor
1-135 2-129 3-134 4-132
5-132 6-132 7-133 8-133
This is after over 220,000 miles, with the heads being the only thing that was ever rebuilt. Gotta love it.

1980 Camaro, '88 Police 350 engine, Headers, full exhaust, completely redone, my baby!
1988 Iroc-Z L98, MSD 6a, Accel coil, K+N's, Airfoil, Coolant Bypass, Flowmaster, Gears, Late model Bose, I like the 80 better

Looks good! I hope there are many more miles left in it. It's doing good but has a long way to go to catch up with some others.
The thing I am driving today, 78 El Camino 305 2-barrel POS, has 339,990 on it; AFAIK the heads have never been off. We've only had it for the last 280,000 of its miles though, who knows what happened to it before we got it. I did have the oil pan off of it at about 80k though, a large sharp rock submerged in a rut ended a 4-wheel-drive trip in it... bummer... other than that I have changed the valve cover gaskets every now and then, and the timing set a couple of months ago. Still has the original cam, lifter, rockers, etc. on it. The intake has never been off.

I guess I'd fall into the "Some" category. By "abuse" I presume you mean neglecting maintenance, loading heavily when cold, and putting it away without a cool-down. Aside from that, full-throttle operation up to 145 MPH is not abusive if everything is in order and the car is warmed. It might be STUPID in some places (like on the roads), but not abusive.

Throw In the Occasional Overheat, Valve Float, and extended near redline operation, and You have Got all your bases coverd.
Keep the Oil warm, the coolant cold, and the Rev's low

All I know for sure is that the motor spent the first 8 years of its existence in a '88 Impala for the NJ State Police. Then it say for a little more than a year after it was pulled from a wreck with a ton of miles. Now it moves my baby

We have 3 work trucks that never get oil changes or regular maintenance. When they stop moving we fix them.
1. 1988 chev 1/2ton 552,000KM
2. 1992 chev 1/2ton 507,000KM
3. 1994 Dodge 1/2ton 520,000km
All of these are running the same motor they had from the factory. they have never had motor work. The dodge has had a rear and a tranny and the chevs have had multi trannies. You can't kill the things. I can still do a huge burnout by just pounding on the gas. The 92 it the TITAN LMAO. You have never heard a 305 rev till you drive that.
