Engine Rebuild, looking for thoughts.

I did a search and didnt find anything to my liking, really looking for opinions, also, wasnt sure if this forum or the engine swap forum was the place for this.

So, im pulling my engine/tranny on monday for a rebuild, current plans are:
Having the heads milled, ported, polished, triple angle valve job, new springs/valves. Having the engine cleaned and bored .030 over. Forged pistons(may spray one day), oversized cam, polish the crankshaft, other than that basic new parts for the rest. Having the plenum ported/polished, along with the intake, SLP fat runners, removing the Smog system( wasnt hooked up anyways), Undrive pulley set, Having the 700R4 rebuild with shift kit.

Does this sound like a good setup, im pretty much going to be driving it on a daily basis, but would also like to hit the track with some power also. Its a stock 350 TPI, using stock heads also. Thanks for any thoughts, recommendations, or ideas!

Perfect time to make it a 383. The small amount of additional money will make you smile when you mash the pedal.

I second what Floor Guy said...make it a 383, get you some good heads, and ditch the TPI for something better such as HSR.

I agree, 350's are great for all around performance but if you want to go fast, you just cant beat more cubes!

My 383 project has begun!

with all the same pieces my 350 had, heads cam bolt ons etc, the 383 was wort 6 tenths of a second in the 1/4 over my 350. plopping a super ram on added another 3 or 4 tenths. By far the single best thing I have done to my ride was the 383 crank. Street driving was awesome as well. Tons of torque between 2 and 4 k mad it a blast to drive. Winter project is to swap in the 406. I hope it is worth a few tenths over the 383. We'll see in the spring.

Thanks for the thoughts and ideas, afraid I *might* be a tad lost on some of it though, this is my first foray into anything major with an engine. I *know* what a 383 is, but not really sure how to make my 350 one( dont laugh!) Is it just a few different components, like the crank? As far as the TPI goes, im comfortable with the system, and once again, not sure what HSR is (dont laugh more!). I am on a somewhat limited budget, and do need the car (sucks when you need 2 cars). I am quite interested in some of the ideas, thanks again for them!

Merry Christmas also to ya'll and your families.

if it's your first engine stick with what you have. a 383 will take you places and require parts you may not want to get into yet.

Thanks for that advice Ede, I think thats the route ill be going "this" time, after getting down on it, ive taken a big interest in it and im hoping it wont be my last rebuild. I do have a family member helping me that knows alot about engine rebuilding. Im already stopping to look at 3rd Gen Camaros that I see on the side of the road lol!
