Won't start 2nd time

I have a 1992 RS 3.1 Manual The first timeI start the car it is fine. If I park it for a short period, it won't start. The fuel pump comes on in the run position, but there is no spark. I replaced cap, rotor, plugs. If the car sits over nite it will start right up.

Welcome Aboard!

That is common when the ignition amplifier module (HEI module) or coil is failing. Instead of simply changing parts, test the ignition coil resistance when hot. The primary resistance should be between 0.1 and 1 ohm.

If you can, connect a tachometer to teh coil when you attempt a hot restat. If the tachometer indicates an RPM reading while the engine is cranked, the HEI module is at least trying to switch current to the coil.

Thanks for the response. I tested the ignition module when the car failed, one of the 10v outputs was zero. I even tried disconnecting the battery to see if something was stored in the computer that was killing the spark.
I ended up replacing the whole distributor assy due to a large amount of corrosion inside the assy. I was afraid that the pick up coil would be next.
Thanks Darren
