Would this fail me on CA Smog?

I just got a new muffler and new CAT for my 92, and I am getting ready to take it in to get smogged.

However, I just remembered that the hood for the engine doesn't open easily as there are no struts and you have to work at it a little.

Would that fail me on smog?

Depends upon what cat you put on.

As long as you can open the hood so they can take a peek, don't know why that would be an issue.

Well, the muffler and cat are smog compliant. It's just the hood that has been bothering me. Because some say I'd fail it, others say not.

Sometimes it can take a try or two to get it open.

Well, I took 'er in to be smogged. Passed everything except some stupid timing thing. lol

Go figure, out of all that, the timing is off by 7 degrees... heh.

Well, nothing $40 can't fix. Other than that, he said emissions (my main concern) passed with flying colors.

Well, next week! heh

I assume you're buying a $40 timing light...

Do what five7 says. Timing is easy. Real easy. Hook it up, point, pull trigger, watch the pretty flashes. The hardest part is probably unhooking the EST wire.

Timing light - $40.

Distributor wrench - $9.95.

Haynes/Chiltons shop manual (for this situation, anyway) - priceless.
