Engine falls flat on it's face at high rpm.. help!

Ok i finaly took out the car for some tuning today, It seems to pull the hardest at 4500 rpm.. These vortec heads however should be giving me peak numbers at about 5500 rpm. instead when I rev it up that high it feels like the engine is overrevving and it doesn't pull strong at all.
4500 isn't too high for a fresh Vortec 350 block built OEM spec is it??

so why am I only making power at 4500rpm?

thoughts?

Well, if you are TBI, then you just need more tuning. But if you have TPI, you will need some serious mods to get it to pull hard past 4500. TPI is tuned for the low end.

Woops, I didn't even see that it was an 82, so you must be carbed, right? In that case, someone else will have to foot you and answer. I don't know a lick about carbs. Sorry about the mistake.

I have a 1982 Camaro with a built up Carburated 350 and I am using the Drilled & Tapped Vortec Heads. My engine pulls strong with power from 1500-6500+ RPM. Check out my website below if it will help or give you any ideas. What cam combo are you running fuel injection system, manifold, etc. Let me know your setup and I could give you a better idea on how you can tune your engine.

Thanks,

Justin

whoops I forgot to give you the details of my engine
hehe

I've got a rebuilt 350 with the vortec heads
9.6 CR
xtreme 262H cam, edelbrock 750 carb, performer rpm manifold, accel ignition, dynomax 1 5/8" headers.
I WAS running a very small air cleaner (10X2") which I replaced with my brothers 14". That helped a little bit, but it still doesnt pull much at all after 4500 rpm.
My engine should pull hard all the way up to 6k. Gtech was only giving me 14.5's too
and I was hitting 14's flat earlier this year.

Is it possible I can tune this out with my carb? I got a fairly large carb on there, it should love the high revs, as well as my cam.

it's nothing sudden, the power just seems to taper off like I hit my redline at 4500..

is there something I'm missing?

My plugs are saying I'm running slightly rich still, but damnit I'm short nearly 100hp here! something aint right.
