Help Me Make My Decesion

Ok so i recived an email from another 3rdgen member about a possible trade for my 67 camaro for a 87 gta that is slightly modded adn was wondering if anyone could tell me abotu how fast you think this car is

Its a 87 gta 5.7tpi 700r4 with a mild shift kit

The engine has a SLP 160* thermostat, SLP headers, high flow cat and SLP cat back exhaust, It also has SLP cold air induction, tpi throttle body airfoil, SLP siamesed runners and a manual fan switch

What do you think?

Why would you trade your 67 camaro away for the 87? Is there something wrong with it? I am looking for a first gen to buy.

i would keep the 67

that 87 GTA should do 14.3's at 97-98ish. i have practically the same mods on mine except with some suspension work and 2800 stall and i am doing 13.9's. LOL

Pretty much replace or upgrade everything. The tranny isn't going to like it and there i now way TPI, will make it there. Or big power adders, but the tranny and rear won't like that much either.

the reson im trading my 67 is because i cant afford to build it and it needs quite a bit of work its a extremly good solid body but first gens are costly for a 17 year old kid to build

I'd still keep it, 20 years from now you'll be glad you did. Hell, 10 years from now you'll be glad you did. Trust me You're only 17, you've got tons of time to put into a '67 and they're only getting more collectable every day.

A good condition first gen even without an drivetrain is worth a lot more than that 3rd gen.

 Don't get rid of it! You would regret it latter on.

haha if only. Still trying to decide if i got this car i would have some money pretty soon to get some stuff done before spring. Ima throw a new paint job on it and do some engine mods. What do you think the first things i should do to the motor are? I like carbed motors alot more but i think that im gonna stick with a fuel injection setup what are the first things i should do? Can you still use normal aftermarket heads on these motors say if i wanted to put soem trick flow heads on it or somehting?

stuck driving this which

Don`t you mean "stuck driving this witch"

Ya, I seen the picture of it you posted, looks like it needs everything cept,

1. roof panel

2. firewall

3. subframe

4. spare tires

I`d take the gta if it were at least an 8 outta 10 car, but you will regret getting rid of that first gen one day

I'll take a stab: If you like the TPI
Drag Radials
LPE 74211 Camshaft
Ported intake and plenum
Aftermarket runners (LPE, AS&M)
Better heads (Upgraded Vortecs with Vortec manifold; AFR 180s; Canfields, Ported 083s (which come on the car), etc. Normal aftermarket heads work)
Stall converter to match camshaft

If the rear and trans. hold, and it's all "tuned" well, you should be doing solid 12s.

Just one option. There are others. More possibilities if you swap intakes for Holley Stealth Ram, LT1 conversion, Mini-Ram, etc.)

Yes.
There are some minor issues with the intake bolt "slots" and perimeter bolt versus center bolt valve covers, but other than that any Gen I small block head should bolt right on to your short block with no problems. I don't recall any other issues.

Keep the camaro save up a couple grand and by a decent 3rd gen theyre not very hard to come by i got my 89 gta 1 owner 67,000 original miles for under 3 grand, i did look around constantly for about 5-6 months but it was worth the wait.
DONT TRADE THE CAMARO THESE GUYS ARE RIGHT YOU WILL REGRET IT AND MAY NEVER HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY AT ANOTHER ONE IN THE FUTURE.
