cam question
I'm in the process of rebuilding the 5.7 TPI in an '89 Iroc and need to replace the cam. This car is only a daily driver, so I'm just looking to get it in good running order, not necessarily make a lot of extra power. What are my cam options with a stock ECM? I don't mind putting a beefy cam in it as long as the stock ECM can run it. What would you guys recommend, keeping in mind that this is being done on a tight budget? I've checked Summit, Jegs, etc, and I really can't afford to spend $500+ on a cam package. I'm just looking for something comparable to the stock specs. Thanks!

Try this one Only other thing you really need to change is the valve springs. Use Comp 981 springs.

Ok, I've got the opportunity to buy an entire cam setup from an LT1 REALLY cheap. How well will this work in my '89 5.7 TPI? Are the specs close enough between the two cams that it will be alright? Like I said before, I'm not really looking for huge power gains or anything. I just want to keep it pretty close to stock so I can run it (at least temporarily) on a stock ECM. Any thoughts?

You will really just be wasting time by swapping the LT1 cam in. It almost too close to the L98 cam to notice any diff. Go with RB on this one.

The ZZ4 cam is a step above the L98, and they can be found new on ebay for $120- $135 regularly.
I've heard also that Sallee Chevrolet sells them for $100.
It's milder than the Comp cam posted earlier.

Stock hydraulic roller lifters, i wouldn't run any cam with the stock springs. There was some place where you could get a new LT1 cam for $50. But i can't find it now, or maybe i'm just on crack, i'm leaning towards the latter.
