Yet another 383 idea that needs some critics

ive been foolin around with DD2K finding come good combos. heres what Imthinkin:

block: #14088548 .030 over, 4 bolt 1 piece
crank: eagle ESP cast steel, 3.75" stroke
rods: I beam 5.7
pistons: hyper#$% flat top, appx 10-10.5:1

cam: either xe274h or xe284h (hydraulic flat, dont wanna convert to roller)
heads: either edelbrock vic jr or trick flow 23 degree, both with 1.5" roller tip rockers
intake: average edelbrock RPM air gap (DP)
carb:850 (again, not sure what brand)

topped off with some 1 3/4" headers, 3" collectors and spintech muffs. also gonna be runnin stock t5 for now, eventually retro t56 and some deeper gears, but nothing over 3.83.

main thing im very undeciced about is heads/cam. I want a good lope at idle, but the motor wont be seein over 6k. Ive heard about 230 or so duration is good for a stroker.

So, another 383 design that needs some criticizing/adding/modifying from others. Take your best shot

Are you planning on nitrous? then those hyper pistons wont do. Also, about the heads...you dont want the vic jr. get the 23 trickflows or maybe even some afr's if u got the dough...which isnt much more than a trickflow.

no nitrous, im a big all motor guru.

as for the heads, ive been lookin at the trick flows. But, Ive been thinkin iv I knock the compression down to about 9.5:1, then I can work with iron heads more than aluminum. I dont care about weight, but I know if I go over 9.5:1, then ima put on some aluminums. So that ideas still in the air as well.

I don't no muce about these things burt here's what I'd due:

Run the flat tops. They will give you around 10.1~10.5 with 64cc chambers.
Use heads with an intake port size of 180cc to 200cc. With a street engine, even a 383 you'll like it better with the conservative intake volume heads due to increased flow speed.

Look at the Dart Iron Eagle 180 to 200cc heads with 64cc chambers. If you want to reduce the compression a little go with the 72cc chambers.
This will still allow you to run a good tight quench to help reduce pinging with this crap the arabs send us.

If you want to go with Alum heads get the 64cc chambers as the alum head will allow you to run a oittle more compression than steel.

Rear back and rip off a couple while you're working on it. It's great 'therapy'. Everybody laughs, right?

Let'er rrrriiipppp.... Buster.

dont do the victor jr's they're a high rpm head

Your cam choice looks great with the trick flow heads.
also use a compression calculator,a zero decked 383 running flat tops and 64cc heads will put you at 11 to 1.Compression sneaks up fast on them there stroker motor's

Hey, I have just one question for you spills. Why go with iron heads, aluminum heads are really not much more expensive. There are many advantages w/ aluminum. I would recomend the Trick Flows, of AFR's.

ya, as far as the heads go, I really didnt htink that good iron heads wud run about 500-600/piece! so after lookin at that, Ill more than likely go with aluminum heads. lighter and i wont have to screw with the timing as much to avoid knock.
