Hey Vader I got a Question?

Hey man, I noticed in your response to the post "Operating Temperatures" That you had a picture of your car with a larger new front air deflector. I was wondering where you purchased that, and was it easily installed. I have noticed that my car has been running up to about 235 degrees, and that when I checked my air deflector under the front bumper, only the front middle section is there. Both the curved sides are missing. This could be a small amount of my problem.
Thanks for your help man!
See ya
Mike

(hope your not mad that I answered this before you did.)

Just the middle section is all stock is supposed to have... What Vader did was he went out to local garden supply store and bought that black plastic garden divider stuff. It's cheap, and it only takes a sharp knife to cut, and you can easily screw it on using factory holes and screws...

Unless I was dreaming when I read that post, I believe thats what he did... vader, wanna ditto what I said or slap me?

Not on a Firebird, it goes all the way to the sides.
There are 2 different ones is my understanding... one is a one piece deal, and I think its been replaced by the newer 3 piece deal. Stuff is cheap from the dealer, tho I dont think it will help cooling much.

The air deflector comes as a 3 piece set for the Trans Am with the 85-90 nose. The Firebirds don't have the "fender extensions" to support the two outer pieces. I think I paid like 25 dollars a few years ago at the dealer for all three sections.

Thanks Guys, I will check the prices at the dealer, and if it is astronomically priced, I guess I can make one.
Thanks again

Well from the factory a Firebird has an airdam that runs all the way to the sides as well, there is something under there to hook it up to but its been so long since I owned the car I dont remember what exactly it mounted to under there. I cant see why the 3 piece wont work on a Firebird unless there is something you know that I dont (like you tried it... I havent had the 3 piece in my hands yet). The 3 piece is a replacement for the one piece that was originally used on at least 85-87 TA's.

25 bucks... told ya it was cheap

Cool.... thanks Max. I have no idea what the thing would be able to be fastened to on a Firebird.... on the T/As that fender extension is huge.... allowing for the 3 fasteners for the rest of the air deflector. I just wish they were'nt made of that soft plastic, the holes for the inserts rip out too easy.

Well, it's not exactly lawn edging plastic. It's a 1/4" thick 'V' ribbed closed-cell EPDM/vinyl compound so that it can flex without cracking and wearing, and is still rigid enough to stay in the wind at triple-digit speeds. I hadn't thought of the lawn edging idea, but I guess it would work if you didn't mind the scraping and scrubbing over those low approaches.

There is the original three-piece ABS plastic deflector set mounted behind the rubber, and made a convenient place to attach the rubber sheet.

The decorative side air skirts that the factory installed have little value in original form, so mine got "lowered" in the same manner. (The original can be seen as a comparison to the truly functional pieces.)

Kevin, I know... I own a TA. One side is fine, the other is pretty messed up... need a new gfx piece on that side, figure I'll replace both while I'm there.

As for the Firebirds, my rusty memory says theres a plastic piece there that attaches to the bottom of the bumper similar to the TA setup... and... I cant remember I do remember it was just black plastic. I'll have to look at a Firebird to refresh my memory.
