TB coolant bypass useless unless.......

Unless you aircool it.Without aircooling it,it will just heat up a little slower.the heat from the plenum transfers to the TB.so if you plan on soing th tb coolant bypass rig up a way to air cool it.

That was what I was thinking, but you could take a very small cooler of somesort and add a electric punp and hose and it would be liqued cooled instead. You could even just run a piece of small tube back and forth under the car...kink of the the KC4 "oil cooler"

but eventually the plenum heat will heat up the coolant you run to the tb,best is to get air from under the car running through it.plus it is alot easier

If you're really set on doing this why not use the smog pump. Just rig up a way for it to grab air from under the car and send it through the TB.

If you read a scan tool, you will see the plenum temp at about 140ish with the car just sitting there, which is less than coolant at 190 when I was checking all that stuff before. Its not useless.

Check WS6.com if you think it is useless.

First off, who cares about a gain, i just wanted those heater hoses out of my way. With it bypassed i have my heater hoses running completely clear of the engine so i don't even know they are there.

Second, who cares if the TB is cooler than the manifold or not. At least w/ it bypassed you aren't pumping 190' coolant through it, ensuring that extra heat gets transferred to the TB and plenum. W/ it bypassed the TB is at roughly the temp of the plenum, which is as good as you can really ask for. If you think cooling the TB coolant passages to 80' is really gonna cause a difference in air temp/density, you smoke crack. how effectiovely do you think the TB coolant manifold can pull heat from the TB? And how effective do you think the TB is at pulling heat from incoming air rushing in at high speeds?

As long as you are using the stock air intake or an aftermarket cold air intake set up you are getting as cool of an air charge as your going to get. With the tb bypassed you are not heating up this incomming air. There is no feasable way to cool this air more other than blocking off thr egr passages that run thru the manifold.

Now this is just an idea. If most of the heat gain on the plenum is from the engine compartment then why not insulating the plenum to prevent this. Remembering that some of us have headers that are not coated or insulated thus rising underhood temps even higher this could help some. But on the other hand if the ribs on top of the plenum which might have been designed to cool it down are covered, this could actually be detrimental.
I have not tried this but have seen some NHRA funny cars as well as dragster with insulating or cold packs on top of their blower intakes. I don't know exactly what they are so don't bash me.

It's suppose to give you about 7HP and 8FT/lbs (on an LT-1 anyway). They heatsoaked in for there Dyno test on WS6.com and it still showed about the same gain.

Regardless of horsepower gain...If you install aftermarket runners, you might have to do it anyway. Because the water tube from the TB hits the larger runners on some.

You could always try to find a set of those plastic runners. That's gotta isolate alot of heat from the top.
