Best Budget Alum Cylinder heads

Whats the best cylinder heads for around 1200bux that flow atleast 260 outa the box with .600 lift. Gotta be aluminum oh and has to be 58-64cc Combustion chamber volume.

You can get AFRs in that price range and IMO they are the best. They come in 68 and 74cc chambers but can be milled down to whatever spec you need if you want to run the same compression with the stock pistons.

Another important thing to look at is intake runner size. Look for heads that flow well without having a port larger than you'd need. Lots of heads flow 260 but few do it with tiny ports. Something to consider.

Fastburn? No way, they have huge runners and are not what they are cracked up to be.

Have you looked into Canfield heads? http://www.canfieldheads.com/sbc.html
They appear to flow really well. I talked to them a couple of weeks ago and you can buy their 195cc (197cc) intake runner heads for $600 or $700/pair bare, just call them. Their 195cc heads accept standard offset rockers, but their 220cc heads are offset, if I'm not mistaken. These are the same heads as the Jegs heads http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerc...50&prmenbr=361 but without the Jegs stamped in them.

Competition Products sells Canfield 195's for $1055 with solid-roller worthy springs.

An extremely underrated, under-used head. I'll be purchasing a set very very soon.

AFR's are expensive when you start to pay for what you want done to them. Such as sensor holes and milling and the better components.

Actually, a buddy getting a set of AFRs (Sean aka GTA in Manitoba). I cautioned him that AFR was notorious for charging for every little thing and "nickel/diming you to death".

However, as I recall, AFR did all the accessory holes for the list price. The only thing they charged extra was for milling the heads down and heli-coils.

I have never used the Canfields but my engine builder has nothing but kind words for them. The head he uses for "bang for the buck" is Brodix.

Lets not forgot you'll be waiting for months just to get the heads directly from AFR... Of course you could buy them from other suppliers but if you need something special, have fun waiting. Regardless of if they're a great head or not, when you factor in the long wait + all the addes costs they just dont seem that great.

No questions about that. I believe my friend ordered his heads in late October/early November and he is SUPPOSED to finally get them this week. 3 1/2 months of waiting.

Not sure if it's because AFR has a large back log (because everyone else wants to do their engine mods during winter) or if they have something wrong with their prodution line.

Funny thing, my other buddy sent his heads back to AFR in early December for some extra work and got them in a couple of weeks.

Are the heads that Competition Products sells bare or are they ready to bolt on?

They will sell them either way. I know when I talked to them (Competition Products), they were $700 bare. That price is for the pair. http://www.primediapowerpages.com/cg...0216&2D1007259
I know the site says that price is each, but I talked to both Canfield and Competition and both said that price was for the pair (bare). Competition told me that the guides are installed on the bare pair, but they will need to be burnished and the seats cut with a serdi.
