With the gasket:
All ports match the gasket, just hard holding it in place with my hand and snapping the picture.

You are working on the floor of the port way too much.
It only needs to be cleaned up.
The wall corners at the floor are real choppy, need to be smooth sharp radii corners. {purple arrows}
Flip the head over and work on the roof of the port, not the floor.
The roof and common wall is where the flow is.
Widen the area at the roof {Dark blue arrow}
Open up the area at the {red arrow} between the "common wall" and the valve guide boss. Slim and streamline the guide boss.
Straighten up the walls on both sides of the port. Make nice tight corner radii. {yellow, green and red lines}
Even up the port roof ( light blue line).
Get a 3/8" diameter rat tail file and break the end off. grind the broken tip smooth and round so it doesn't dig into your work.
use the rat tail file to straighten the port corners and roof.
use it in a drill, it won't work in a die grinder.
The white rectangle shows the high flow area in a SBC intake port.
Work to improve it here. WORK ON THE ROOF, NOT THE FLOOR.

I was gonna post, but the above information is good for you to listen too.
I ported my heads myself and then had a machine shop mill and clean my heads.
Anyways, here is an awesome tech article I used as a guide. http://www.sa-motorsports.com/diyport.shtm
I'd suggest reading it before continuing.
Notice the difference between my porting and yours

I'm also guessing your using a dremel and not a real die grinder.
You need to be extermly careful. I know that sounds like flack, but the truth is, while porting is a simple concept, you could already have ruined the flow pattern on those heads.
I'd get them cleaned up the best you can and get a shop to flow test them to make sure one port isn't flow more than the other.

What kinda heads are those?
Don't worry so much about gasket matching. That is one of the last things you should be doing. It won't yield as much improvement as other areas you haven't touched yet.
I'm not in a typing mood, but you'll find plenty of info from F'BIRD'88, Sitting Bull, and various others in old posts. Things you should look into are blending the bowls, smoothening out the short side radius (don't change its shape, just smoothen it out) and trimming the valve guides (very time consuming).
You are going to need to take the valves and springs apart.
By the way, F-BIRD'88 gives great advice. He had a post a while back with flowbench numbers where his home ported 416 castings outflowed Vortecs.

Keep it up Pasky
I caught the part about IN progress. Just keep plugging at it. Its easy to get tierd f the hole process and get in a a hurry to get done. If you find your self getting like that STOP what your doing and walk away. Its easy to do it fast and wrong. Listen to Fbird advice he knows what he is talking about and you heads will flow like crazy. After reading what he said now I am wondering if the job I did on mine is right. I am wondering about the flow pattern. AWWW never mined I had SSitting Bull check them and he said they were good so I will trust him. JUst keep at them. The idea is not to remove a lot of metal its to fix the casting flow restrictions.

Looking great so far Pasky! Keep up the good work, cant wait to see them finished!
oh btw, are you using an electrical, or air die grinder? I'm about to buy the bits from standard abrasives, and I need a die grinder as well, but I dont have an air compressor, just wondering what specs I should look for in a grinder for this.

Air, wish I had an electrical cus the damn thing sucks my 160 gallon dry in a matter of 3 minutes. I don't have time to finish these as i've been stomped with work due to the bank examiners getting here and were opening up a new east branch. Im putting stock heads back on but will continue these when i have more time. Thanks for the compliments.

Take your time!
I use a 35 gallon tank and the recovery sucks, but you know it was perfect for doing the porting. It allowed me to really look at what I was doing and made me take my time. It also made sure I did not get carried away and take to much metal out. your compresser is fine it makes you slow down which is a good thing. Stick with it.
