Charcoal canister...do I need it??
I lack this canister due to having cold-air (which leaves no room to put the canister). The hose that conected to the canister emits gas fuels badly and I can hear gas "bubbling" when the car is turned off and I open the hood. What should I do? Plug the hose, or just try and find a spot to put the canister. It's pretty tight under the hood. Any input is appreciated.

This always perplexed me. It seems that there have been all sorts of horror stories about gas fumes, etc. I've got a piece of duct tape around the end of the tube and have never had a hint of gas odor, liquid or any other sort of problems.

You still need to vent the tank! There should be a valve (small hockey puck looking thing) in-line between the hose to the tank and the inlet to the canister. There is a vacuum hose fitting on the valve. The vacuum connection regulates when the valve can open when the engine is running. When the engine is off, you will hear gurgling because positive pressure in the tank will force the valve open to vent (acts as a check valve - fumes only travel one way). At least retain this valve and its connection to vacuum so you don't vent the tank at the wrong time.

So the only reason I'd need to get a canister is for the safety factor right? Just so the gas fumes have some (safe) place to vent?

1BadGTA,
I've had mine out for a month now. It went bad and I had to wait for the part to come in. Just haven't had time to put the new one in. I redirected the vent hose down thru the bottom of the engine compartment. I've never seen any sign that gas comes out of it. I think the only issue here is keeping the vented gases away from an open flame - which shouldn't BE an issue, of course.
