How do I tell if my computer is bad. I don't have a scan tool but I did try the pin in the ALDL port and the SES light just stays on.

You need to check the ALDL with the car not running. Just making sure you did that. Jump the A B terminals and turn the ignition key on (where dash lights come on) but DO NOT START THE CAR WITH ALDL JUMPED!!. This will cause damage to the computer. So if you do this and don't get a code 12 three times (one flash followed by two flashes) then the computer is not going into diagnostic mode and is probably shot.

 

WHen you say AB terminals what number does that equal out to. I only find then numbered.

Yes I have done those and the SES light is on and stays on. There is no blink at all and it will not go off.

Just to verify the process..

Turn key to "run", do not start the car.

Jump the A and B connection.

Is this the way you're doing it?

 

Yes I am afraid that is the way I am doing it. THanks for the help what do you all think. My air/fuel mix is off....my timing is off.......and it will not idle...

Well, first I'd check a few things...

Make sure the EPROM is in correctly and no pins are bent under...i recall you saying you have a Hypertech one in there?

If the above checks out okay, put the stock EPROM back in, just to eliminate the chip as the problem.

About the only other thing I could suggest is to make sure all the ECM grounds are intact and connected to bare metal on the heads, and not freshly painted metal.
