Are these holes supposed to be here? Intake manifold question

I recently bought a ZZ4 intake manifold for $150. It wasn't until my friend took a look at it that I realized a few holes inside the intake manifold where it looks like they should not be. However, I thought I'd post a pic here to confirm this.

What should I do if these holes shouldn't be there? Is there any way to patch them so I can use the manifold, which is otherwise brand new and in perfect condition?

I believe they are for EGR. JB weld will take care of them. Might want to look at EGR system because if blocked off will probably not make a difference.

That is correct; they connect to the EGR valve passages.

So let me just make sure I completely understand... these holes are correctly placed where they are? I am planning on keeping my EGR valve functioning. So I guess they are needed for some kind of temperature-related function of the EGR valve? The holes look like they go into a coolant passage.

If you put an air hose onto the EGR mount you will feel air going through those holes. Those passages allow exhaust gasses to recirculate into the combustion cycle.

Cap them, why would you want hot carbon filled air into your exhaust manifold? Stupid system....

Because it improves your mileage, reduces emissions, reduces combustion temps and shuts off during WOT. EGR may be ugly to look at but it does serve a very important purpose.

I understand the system shifty. Im just saying, the man will be running a carb anyways. All that carbon build up can't be good. I'd cap it. I think if he was worried about milage he'd go fuel injected.

Yeah, everyone who worries about mileage can afford to convert to fuel injection.

I'll probably end up keeping it to keep the ECM happy. Gonna retain the stock CC QJet with a few tuning modifications.

Been there, done it. ECM will be just as happy without it.
