which cam? xe-256 or xe-262
im looking at some comp cams for my 85 z28 thats got the 305 tpi motor. i got it all apart and i want to some insite on which cam i should go with. should i get the xe256 or the xe-262 grind. the 256 looks like a real nice streetable cam but the 262 has a little more lift and a little more duration. but to compensate for the duration it has a 114 lobe seperation. whereas the 256 only has a 112.? any ideas. i know a few 305 people have run the 256 grind.

I would go with the xe 262 cam since you have exhaust upgrades planned. Either cam will be streetable. I have the HOT cam and it is VERY streetable. It barely is noticable when the engine is warm.

I am running the XE256 in my 350 and I love it. This cam combined with the good low lift numbers of my 416 heads makes great torque and its super streetable. Both of these cams are very streetable. Also I think all of the XE cams have 110 LSA. If you plan on upgrading your gears or you at least have 3.23's I would say go with the XE262 but if you plan on running highway gears go with the XE256. good luck.

Not much difference in torque between the 256 and 262. Heck my XE274H in a carbed 305 still had all sorts of low end. The 256 is so mild that a buddy and I stuck one in his 305 tbi and it ran fine on the stock chip. I would go with he 262 as it should run great. I would not even bother opening up the engine to do the 256 cam. Are you still running mass air?
