Gas tank fire
Gas tank fire
Hey everyone. I own a 92 Z28 350 and today it caught on fire for no apparent
reason. The fire was between the gas tank and the rear fender somewhere,
around the fuel filler neck that goes in the tank. I believe it has
something to do with that recall on 91-92 gas tanks having that problem
where the neck is not properly welded to the tank causing it to leak gas. I
tilted the car to the right a little and a little gas poured out of that
area.
Well an hour later I took it to the dealership. The service advsior was of
course unaware of the recall and was very calm about the situation and told
me he cant look at it today. Do you guys know what recall I'm talking
about... or is my memory going bezerk lately ? lol Thanx

Yes, there was a recall on 91-92's for that reason. I think it was stated that the weld between the filler neck and tank could have pin holes in it. I bought mine in July of 92 and I believe the recall was issued in late 93 or early 94.
I never did take mine in to be serviced but reading this has made me think that I should.
