Brake lights out, what to check?

All of my brake lights are dead, the bulbs are good, where do I go from here?

What fuse is this under, where do all wires connected to the brake lights go to?

Thanks

Check the brake light switch, located on the brake pedal under the dash.

Should have power into the switch on one wire, and power out of the other wire when you press the brake pedal.

There is a brake fuse. it should be labeled "brake". that could be the cause.

If you have cruise control....drive it, set the C/C, then step on the brake. If the car speeds up after you take your foot off the brake then you KNOW you have a bad brake light switch.

Tried that, the switch is good.

Where are the wires grounded at?

Where do they run from and through?

I think its something simple, like the ground.. I'll probly test the voltage soon too though..

So far, Switch, fuse, bulbs all good.. What else?

THis is driving me nuts..

If the brake fuse is bad then your rear defrost won't work either, I believe. So you can check to see that too. Have you done anything that might ground out the wire? I did a rear deck swap about a year ago and found that the wire for the third lite under the wing got grounded when my buddy clamped it under one of the washers. Dumbfuk I didn't have break lites for a week.

Turn signal switch.

Think about it - when you turn on a blinker, that rear bulb's "battery" gets changed from being supplied by the brake light switch, to being supplied by the flasher.

Do the TSs work?

Your rear window defroster is unplugged!
The break signal goes throught the defroster wires. When you hit the brakes does the defroster light come up?

I was wondering if the turn signal switch could possibly be the cause. The turn signals stopped working on my wife's oldsmobile, and the brake lights only worked intermittently. When I replaced the turn signal switch, everything worked again. I was only expecting the turn signal situation to be fixed. Now, my cousin is having a similar problem with his TA. Could it be the same thing?

Turns out it was the wiring harness back behind the glove box. The black wire coming out of it was out about 1/8 of an inch. I taped it back up and it seems to be working fine now.

Thanks to all who helped.
