Rare Engine?

I'm not very knowledgable on third gen motors, so i'm not sure if what i've been told is true. Perhaps some of you can clear this up? I bought an 87' Camaro Sport Coupe rather recently. It has the stock 305, no mods. In conversation the other day, someone asked me what size engine I had. When I replied, "305" he asked "oh, TPI right?". I then proceeded to tell him that no, it was not TPI, but carbed. He looked at me strangley and told me that a carbed 305 in a 1987 Camaro was not a very popular motor, popular in the sense that many cars had it. He also said that the carbed 305 used a different intake manifold. Is any of this true? Or do I actually have a crap motor like I think i do. haha, any input would be appreciated. Thanks everyone!

yes, carbed uses a very different intake manifold then FI... it's a wet style...
More importantly, the non TPI, (carbed), is much weaker as far as base power level is concerned.. so yes, you have the "crap" motor...
To double check, what's the 8th digit in your vin?

The 305 carb'ed LG4 was the base option. I've seen plenty of '87s with them. If anything, they might be rare in an IROC-Z as those were usually ordered with the better TPI engine. Having the bottom of the line V8 isn't exactly a plus ...

Oh trust me guys, Im very aware that I don't have a powerful motor. I was just curious as to whether or not there was a hint of "specialty" to this engine or not. By the way, the eighth digit is an H.

H = LG4. Nothing special at all about it.
