Distributer woes continued.....new thread

Well, I checked and double checked and triple checked and I think I got the wires right now. I even took out #1 and #3 spark plugs and cranked the engine and matched up the compression blow out from the spark plug hole and the roter position =P. I still cant start the car though. With no wires connected to the cap, the engine turns freely with the aid of the starter when cranked. When I hook the wires up and try to start it the engine turns ever so slowly and I dont hear any cylinders firing. I have checked #1 spark plug and it fires when taken out of the engine. All the plugs are new, installed 2 weeks ago and ran fine till I played with the cap =(. Could it be that cleaning the cap caused this? There was about 0.1-0.3mm of deposites on each inner 'spoke' of the cap. I removed it with a file and cleaner and now there is a larger gap between the roter arm and the cap 'spokes' now. Im tired and I think I might just take it to a GM dealer service center.

hey, it;s manny again.try connecting all the wires correctly and when starting hold down the gas pedal all the way to the floor.if that doesn't work look at your fuses.the dealer may check your fuel injecters.or you can goto autozone and get cap and rotor new.
IF you messed up your distributor the car may not rotate. try and disconnect the wires from the distributor and see.

Caps are cheap so I say replace it. Had a similar prob with my dads 1980 impala we put on a new accel cap and rotor and the damn thing wouldn't run went and pick up a dirt cheap motormaster cap and rotor put them on and sure enough the thing fired up right away.
