89 IROC Won't start

New battery and distributor last fall.
The car sat over winter and spring.
Car cranks and has corrrect fuel pressure at the rails.
When ignition key is released to return to the "Run" position the car fires once. No spark while cranking.
thanks

Don't think it's VAT's, if it were, car wouldn't crank.

Got gas? Got good gas? My my estimation the stuff in the tank is 8-9 months old?

Have someone tuen it over, and pull the number 1 plug wire, make sure you're getting good spark.

Like I said. It has NO spark while cranking. It has correct fuel pressure at the rails and the injectors are clicking. As soon as I release the key fron "crank" to "run" it then fires once on one cylinder.
Thanks for the replies, I haven't had a chance to check the VATS recommendation yet.

The VATS wires on my car are a pair of white wires in an orange sheath. They connect to a white and purple/yellow stripe wire. The ohm is consistant with the key in all positions, off, run, and start. It must be in the distributor. I'll try swapping that this week.
