Temp Guage Sensor Question

I think my ex-mechanic screwed up the wiring to my temp sensor in the drivers side between #1 and #3 plugs when he was changing the plugs. There is a wire coming up there with a rectangular connector on it. The wire is just hanging there saying 'connect me to something'. But the temp sensor just has a stub of a bare wire poking out of it. Looks like whatever used to be the connector on the sensor has been knocked off. If I get a new sensor will it have a rectangular terminal for this rectangualr connector on the end of this hanging wire ? Any way I can reconnect the wire to the sensor without buying a new sensor ? btw, I know the mech should pay for it, but that's a whole nuther story....

Thankx

The connector on the sensor is a round tab. The slot in the rectangle part slides over it until it clicks.

You can also get the kind that is a standard flat type connector but that will not work with the rectangle connector you have.

Thanks. You don't mean round like a small ball, do you ? I assume you mean round on the end, but flat, like the end of a popsicle stick, right ?

No... It looks like a nail head sticking out of the sender. The rectangle connector has a slot in it that slides on perpendicular to the nail head.

Ah. Well, that's what it looks like now, a small nail head, I think. But it also has a very thin wire about 1/4 inch long coming right out of the center of the nailhead, I think. Geez, maybbe I can just hook up the rectangular connector to the nail head. Wow, never saw anything like that before. Thanks for the help. I'll try reconnecting it tonight.
