I'm About To Give Up!!!!!!
Well, the engine is not running right. I still have fuel spraying out of the carb when I try to crank it over. And now, when I try to rev the motor up, fuel sprays out of the carb, and the engine quits. I was underneath the car last night, and I just found out that I have oil leaking from the rear main seal, oil pan(where it mates with the timing chain cover), and the timing chain cover gasket itself. I just can't win it seems. But what would you expect from a motor that sat for 4 years before it was used? Oh well, I don't know if I have anything left in me to get this done. It's just too much
I wanted to take my time and build the engine so that it would be *perfect*, and now it is the furthest thing from it.

Haggard: The fuel pressure is right around 7 PSI at idle, which is about the max that it should be. I am also using an Edelbrock carb model 1407. It's a 750 CFM with a manual choke. You can see it here...

DENN_SHAH: The fuel tank pump has been long gone seeing as how it was originally a V6 MPFI unit. The only thing left in the tank is the fuel level sender. I tried to drill a hole at the bottom of the tank and install a fuel cell bulkhead with a fast flow 90 fuel fitting but it sits way too low and will come into contact with the muffler/muffler heat shield.

If you're pressurizing the intake tract, eg. blowing fuel out the carb, that usually indicates the cam timing is way off. Intake valve is open while the piston is travelling upward on compression.
Since you'll be having the oil pan off to fix the leak anyway (assuming you haven't given up) that's a good time to re-check the cam timing. Likely you bought a 3-way indexed timing set and mixed up the index marks, it happens.

maybe you have tightened the rockers too far so the valves will remain open a little bit. try setting the fuel pressure to ~5 psi at idle. maybe that helps a bit...

Thanks for all the replies! NO I am not going to give up, it's just very frustrating to be having these problems surface as soon as I get everything ready to go. Since I can get the engine to start and idle I think that I will take an old set of valve covers that I have lying around, cut the top off of them and put them on. That way I can adjust my valves with the engine running. This is my first time messing with a carb setup. I mainly work on fuel injection engines. At this point though, I just hope that it's only the lash that is too tight and not a bent intake valve. That would suck.

If thats a Edelbrock Performer carb you may have to regulate the fuel pressure down a little. They are really picky about high pressure at idle.
