Leaking Coolant, please help...

About 2 weeks ago my car started leaking coolant (first major thing wrong with the car in 93,000 miles!) and when I looked it just seemed like the lower Rad hose had a crack in it so I went to autozone and bought a new one and since I live in an apartment I can't do the work myself so I had a shop down the street do it. They guy changed the lower rad hose (I saw him do it), I filled it back up, and within 2 minutes it started dripping again! I have no way to jact up my car and it's not possible for me to sneak underneath it.

The water is actually dripping off of the bottome curve of the lower rad hose but it's not the hose it's self. It sounds to me like it's my water pump like it's bearing went out, what do you guys think??? I'd like to figure this one out before I pay someone to put a new on for me and that not be it. what are the other possibilties???

Actually on second thought, I'll just change the water pump myself if that's it, I don't trust a shop to do that on my car. The problem is I don't have any place to work on it since I live in an apartment

Maybe the mechanic, didn't put the hose on good enough. Just a thought. Or lke the other guy said, a cracked radiator, or heater hose or something. Sorry I am not more of a help man.

I see alot of water pumps leak out the "weep" hole and run down the lower rad hose. Usually you can look at the bottom of the hose and see which direction the drip came from and its pretty obvious. Thats pretty crappy for the tech who put the hose on not to say anything, but since you brought the part and told them what to do, they are pretty much off the hook.

shine a flashlight down into the engine compartment and check to see where the leak is...it sounds like it is your water pump though.

Well the hose and hose clamps are on tight, I watched him while he did the work. I hope to hell it's not the radiator and I doubt it is. I do think that it is the "weep" hole as you put it which happens when the bearings go right? I'll get a flash light and I'll check. Hopefully that's it. I can get a brand new non-rebuilt water pump for only $44 with a lifetime warranty

Let me go check.....

Well, it's not coming from the little hole in the water pump. The radiator isn't wet but get this, when I just now started my car, it leaked from the back of the hose where it connects to the water pump but it then stopped after a couple of minutes. I revved my engine at let it sit at full temp for a while and it stopped leaking. Could it have fixed it's self or is it going to come back??

sounds like the hose is loose.

let's hope that the guy didn't crack your rad when he took off the hose. they always reef back and forth trying to break the hose loose, who knows why!

I ALWAYS cut off the old hose, i mean.. it's junk, isn't it?

A good trick for next time to help get the hose on easily is to use a dab of dish soap and wipe it both on the pump and on the rad and inside the hose, it'll slip right on
