starter relay

the starter relay on the '91 RS (305 TBI/5 spd) is bad. When you turn the key you get 12.7 volts on two wires but you have to press the "flapper" over on the relay to get it to make contact for the engine to turn over. Neither Advance Auto Parts or Auto Zone can get that relay, "sorry, no longer available". If I can't find one would I damage anything if I bypass that starter relay and install a jumper wire around it?

Thanks,

Someone is feeding you a line, I also work at advance auto and the part you are looking for is not listed as a starter relay for your car. It is listed in the advance auto data base as a ANTI-THEFT relay. It is an A/C Delco part number 14093107 and goes for $12.88 plus tax.

Thanks, I just printed your reply to take by the Advance Auto store on the way home from work tomorrow. I've never had much luck remembering numbers. Maybe we'll get that thing on the road yet. Then I can have my IROC back.
