The maro suffered a hard hit today. Somebody's muffler fell off on the expressway and I saw it too late to stop and there were cars to both sides of me so i couldn't swerve around it. Long story short from what I could gather from a quick look the oil pan is obliterated and the Y pipe is all dented up. I know im gonna have to lift the block to fix this but i have very limited resources I can get a hydraulic jack which will help but are there any items besides the normal socket set and wrenches that I will need to do this? Also is the stock exhaust welded or clamped. If its welded, I'll need a welder. Are there any TBI specific methods? Any experience tips you guys can give is much appreciated. I posted here becuase I wasn't sure where to put it... This is my commuter maro and i need it to get to school so i need it to get it done ASAP. Also do all the fluids need to be drained?

Swivel joints.

And the exhaust is welded.. but the y pipe is bolted to the cat and the manifolds.

Also, why the hell cant people get their POS cars off the goddamn road before **** like this happens? I mean, if your freaking muffler is going to FALL OFF, you'd think you would notice, and do something about it. I hate it when people neglect their vehicles like that. Once I saw a belt someone had dropped, and then about 30m ahead of that I saw a pulley, and then a ways farther there was an abandoned rustbucket...

 

I can get a swivel joint dealie. And cool I can just unbolt the Y pipe. I hate that people can't just look under their car once in a while or find a decent mechanic and get regular maintenance stuff done. But I guess what's done is done and now I have to look to fixin it. Good things im friends with the guy at the junk yard because I'm not rich.

Grr. Having trouble locating an oil pan. But I just thought of this. I have an 83 station wagon in my back yard VIN code H its a 305 crancase volume is 5 quarts just like the maro's. Is it the same oil pan? How about the pump?

 

get some PB blaster and start spraying now, oe if you can try and locate an oxy-acetalene torch so you can just melt off those rusted on bolts. sawzall works as well. the oil pan should be easy though once you find one that'll work.

 

Darn, that sucks. Although I am guilty of having my mufler fall off - one of the hangers failed, so I merely dragged it on the ground. Turns out that the intermediate pipe rusted clean through, but it only looked like it had a hole. Ripped it off, and it sounded pretty ghetto for awhile.

I now pay more attention to the exhaust system of my cars...

 

your 83 station wagon oil pan will not fit your 91 camaro..

the rear seals are different and thus, the bolt holes wont line up.

2 peice rear main seals went through 84 and in 85 they switched to a 1 peice rear main seal.
