Gas tank
Gas tank
Tried searching but coiuld not find what i was looking for
I have an 88 305 tpi trans am. I noticed that when i open the tank there is a noise, however if it is air going in due to vaccum, or if it is air going out due to pressure is hard to tell.
Is it suppose to be that way?
Most likely the canister has never been changed.... could a blocked one cause this? I asked a GM dealer and the guy said you never have to change the canister!? Why do they even sell them?
I read online that i could service it myself instead of buying a new one, is it recomended?
Hope some one can help, Always seems to be at least one person

Psh every car I've ever owned has done that. Even my parents cars, since brand new, have done that. I think it's completely normal.

Yep, its normal. All the newer vehicles have sealed fuel systems to lower HC emissions. There should be a one way valve on the tank though to let air in the tank to replace the fuel as it is burnt. If it is a suction on the tank, chances are that the valve is bad, or the line is clogged.
