Taping In The Side Of My Heads

I got L98 Aluminum heads off a 89 vette, i sent them out to get them redone, new higherlift springs, valvejob, cleaned, shaved and whatnot, and i got them on the motor the other day, and i was looking, and there is like a taping or threaded hole on the outside kinda by the spark plug hole, but its offseted a little bit..i have no idea what it is...its gotta be there for something, it is on each head...i don't know if there was supposed to be a plug in it, but its threaded, it must have some purpose..you just don't thread holes for the fun of it...anybody know what its for?

Same thing as your existing heads.

Temp gauge sending unit in the driver's side, fan switch in the pass side; pipe plug in any that you don't use.

i'm running my fans off a toggle switch, so that means i just put a pipe plug in the passenger side right...

I'd suggest putting a fan switch in it, and hooking it up; so when the inevitable happens, as it ALWAYS does, you don't smoke your motor and crack your new heads.

what if i wired it to a relay and hooked it to my ignition, so when the car comes on, so do the fans...

then you'll just end up burning your fans up... whats wrong with an automated engine cooling solution?? you could also use the ECM to control the fans..

i just figured it was simple and less complex if I had them running all the time...they pretty much do all the time anyways as it is because it always runs like 210-220 all the time in the summer....

also the dual fans i got aren't from a fbody, they are aftermarket that i bought off a guy...they just have a postive and negative wire for each one...and my car is setup for a single fan...so i don't really have the required harness to make it all work properly..thats also why i was thinking to having them run all the time....i went all summer last summer with my single fan running all the time and it never blew up, and my buddy did the same thing and his has been runing for 2 years strong...what else can i do? i dont' really have the time to get a harness and everything to make it all work...

doesn't matter to me what you do--it's your car, not mine.

When i was running those fans i had them hooked up to a 3 position toggle switch. So i had on for 1 fan/off/both on thats how i had it set up. Also the best thing to do is run one relay for each fan. If u want i could pm u with more details.

How about, just put the switch back in where it goes, hook the wire back up like it belongs, leave everything else about the whole circuit ALONE, maybe hook both fans to the one supply wire, and don't hack anything at all?

Why are you so determined to hack this?

It's your car, so if that's what you want - an unreliable car, with electrical intermittents everywhere, and mystery battery drain, and fans that don't work at some critical moment, and fans that don't work because the user forgot to turn on some switch, and all the rest that goes with hacked-up wiring - you can do that; just don't be surprised when your car kills itself because of it. Most of us consider that state of affairs as something to be avoided, though.

2 years is nothing, in terms of reliability. That's not long enough to verify that something isn't going to just up and break at any moment. I've owned the car I have now for almost 20 years and over 300,000 miles, as a daily driver most of that time. Do what you're talking about doing, it's pretty much certain the car won't make it for 2 years in your possession, let alone 20.

well don't get me wrong, i would like to keep everything all automatic but I just don't know how to go about doing it...yes I agree that would kind of get annoying having to switch your fans on all the time, and potentially forgetting....but how would I go about wiring it usuing the factory fan harness...

just put the switch back in where it goes, hook the wire back up like it belongs
And all will then be just as it was when new.

Check around, see if anybody has the one for Buick GNs in stock. 87 would be a good year to ask for.
