will it work?

i have a 91 camaro with a 350 i ended up installing a cam that gives me .480 lift my question is if i put in 1:6 rockers and install new valve springs would i smack a valve? If i put on the 1:6 rockers ill have a .512 lift. What is the max lift i can get out of stock heads without smacking a valve?

You probably wouldn't have valve-to-piston contact even with the 1.6 rockers. However, you better make sure you have enough retainer-to-guide clearance for that much lift. Stock heads with stock seals/retainers/guide bosses usually start to have contact between the two around .470" lift, give or take.

well let me tell you my experience....i just got my alum L98 vette heads back 2 days ago and this is what he had to do...my cam is .503/.510 lift with 1.6 rockers...making it about .536/.543 lift....he had to swap my valves out becasue the stock ones have a set of groves in them that makes the spring secured down lower on the stem...so he got me new valves with a single groove on top and they were a bit higher...after all was said and done, i had about half inch higher installed height plus the spring was set up higher on the valves....so from what it sounds like what your doing is not gonna work....but you are kinda boarderline...it would be real close to bottoming out your spring, IMO its better to be safe than sorry and get everything done right...

Anyone else have any feedback on my question?

i was in your shoes a year ago working for 6.50 when i was 17...i am 18 now, got a decent summer job, and i got upwards of 7g's in my car now....all i can say is save your pennies...and everytime you get a present make sure its for your car ....but there are a list of free mods you can do, maybe look into some of them...i would look into maybe a new exhaust system because that will make your car sound a lot better and add pretty decent performance...like a catback or something...then maybe if your feelin gutsy maybe port out your TPI intake with a dremel or something...

yea i have to start really dumping more **** into my car it should run mid 13s right now but my goal by the end of summer is to run mid 12s im getting a new gear and im still trying to figure out if the 1:6 rockers will fit, people are saying that im boderline, i think im going to order the 1:6 rockers put two of them on, one on the intake and one on the exhaust and crank the engine over by hand and see if the rockers will clear i think thats my best bet.

not completely sure what all my machinist had to do to my heads to make it all fit and work, but i'm running an LT4 hotcam with 1.6 rollers in my L98 (with stock valve covers), making .525 on the lift. i know that he had to open up the pushrod holes and open up the spring pockets for the new springs, also had a 3-angle valve job done. also had bronze guide liners and teflon seals put in. a little over $600 parts/labor...

yea 600 is a little steep for me right now so im not sure i think i just might get a nice set of 1:5 rockers because im starting to think that they will still benefit me pretty good because the stock rockers flex quite a bit and if the 1:6 do fit they will only give me about 5 more h/p i was basically just hoping that i would get a little more rough idel that was my main reason for wanting to get a little more lift outta my cam you can hear the idel a little but but you really have to be listing for it i just want a noticeable idle i just like the way it sounds
