Fuel Pump Leaking Oil? HELP!!

Car-1982 Trans Am
Engine-Stock 305 LG4, mechanical fuel pump

I drove my car around the small circle on my road about 10 times; I was turning left, so the oil was being pushed to the passenger side. When I drove the car on ramps a few minutes later, oil is dripping from the fuel pump. It went away after 5 minutes. Is this a common problem?

I noticed a bit of oil on the front most passenger side spark plug, but there wasn't any oil on the electrode.

Unbolt it, and change the gasket. See what happens.

Are there any special steps to replacing it? What type of gasket sealer should I use?

Has the smog pump been hacked off of your car?

My smog pump is frozen, so I took it out some time ago. Otherwise, this wouldn't be fun at all.

The new fuel pump is in, had a small fuel leak that I fixed with another hose clamp. Now I hear a lifter ticking, so I'm off to look at that.

So, when you took off the smog pump, did you also remove the bracket that it sits in?

Yea, but there is still some sheet metal piece that also acts as a spacer for the alternator, I just left that on.

So, is there a bolt in the upper bolt hole for the smog pump bracket? I'm guessing not.

Look in that hole. You'll be staring at the fuel pump rod. If you didn't have a fuel pump rod in there, you would actually be able to see the crank through that hole in some blocks.

Put a SHORT bolt in that upper hole with some silicone on the threads.

That's your oil leak, not the fuel pump..... a direct communication between the crankcase and the outside world.

Well, I just replaced the fuel pump and I don't have a leak anymore. So this hole is right above the fuel pump rod? I'll go take a look.

It's on the FRONT of the block, where the smog pump bracket came from. The upper one of the 2 bolt holes.
