Is it possible to install a thermostat backwards or wrong?

Im just wondering because i didnt put it in any particular way... I mean i didnt put it in upside down or anything but im just curious....

As long as its seated properly and not upside down it will work.

I'm sure its possible but I think its highly unlikely, because I don't think the thermostatic element (the end that goes into the intake) will fit into the neck.
