What is Water Wetter?¿

I see alot of people say to add this to the radiator, but what is it, and what does it do?
Thanks

I am not exactly sure what it is made of, but it claims to drop your coolant temp. up to 30*.

It is a product made by Red Line that makes the water "wetter". It makes the water molecules become more intimate with the metal parts, thereby transferring heat into and out of the water better.

Thanks for the info guys. And thanks for the site Steve. Where can I buy this stuff, or can I only get it directly from them?

Ahh, a Water wetter topic.

Finally someone listened.

Well, for starters it comes in a small clear bottle and is bright pink. You can find it at your local autoparts store for around $8.00 or order it from Summit (part # RED-80204 $7.95)

It's made by Redline and claims to reduce you coolant temperatures up to 30°F. It also protects against corrosion and rust.

I use this stuff in my car and I think it really works!

I think VADER uses it in his car as well. but he'll have to tell you his opinions.

On your next atifreeze change try the following combo and see if you get any different temp readings.

Buy 1 gallon of Havoline antifreeze (comes in a black bottle and is orange in color) and a bottle of water wetter. This will set you back about $15.00.

If you are currently using the green antifreeze you will need to completely flush the system. The green stuff and havoline are not a good mix!

If you don't have a flush kit....
Simply drain the rad and fill with water. Run the engine a few minutes and then drain again. Do this until you don't see any green tint to the water.

Once you are running pure water in your rad. Drain again and then add a gallon of Havoline antifreeze and the bottle of water wetter and fill the rest with water.

I'm not sure if the havoline is actually any better than the green stuff, but it does allow you to see junk in your rad since it's clear/orange. The green stuff will not let you see any further than a few millimeters and therefore you cannot see any contaminents in your radiator.

Everyone I have talked to swears by this system and once they have used it they simply will not switch back even if they do not see any results.
Go figure that one out!

In my experience....
Nothing but good results.
Our temp never goes beyond 230° in city driving with the A/C full blast during 103° outside temps.
And this is with a 3 row rad and a single fan.

To be perfectly honest with you....

I think it's well worth the $15 and time invested to give it a try.
Even if you don't get the results as we did, you really haven't spent all that much to try something new.

Thanks Sunbitz. I think I will try that. Hey man, is that a clear hood on your car? If so, it looks tough!
Where did you get that?

Give the cooling system a change.
Even if you don't get any better results.... you're car will thank you for it.

As for the hood....
No, it's not a clear hood.
Just something I did to get attention.

And man have I gotten attention on these boards!

Just a little photo editing that took me all of about 2 minutes to do on the computer.
But, from the results I've gotten on these boards, I want funds for the concept if this ever becomes a reality! (double )

Hey sunbitz, that looked cool. I thought it was real for sure. You should patent that. It wouldn't look good on my car with the stock motor, but with some HI PO mods it would look tough!

It reduces the surface tension of the water creating a lower thermal resistance hence better heat transfer.

If you really want to get the best effect from water wetter leave out the antifreeze in the summer. Pure water is a better coolant that antifreeze and the wetter will have the lubricants for the water pump and anti corrosion in it.

Ethelglycol must be mixed with water to get the best cooling properties, which are better than only water. If you run water only be prepared for low boiling temps, high coolant pressure, and low coolant flow due to pump cavitation. To get the best cooling run between 60/40-70/30 water coolant mix. That also keeps the boiling point high, so pressure in your cooling system stays low and the water pump doesn't cavitate. I'd only use that water wetter stuff if you coolant temp was running higher than your themostat temp. Also if your car has a lot of miles, I would take that water temp gauge as Gospel.
