This has to be easy
I had to loosen my TV cable from the carb so I could feed the line through and connect it to the trans. Then when I went back to put the line back in, I couldnt get the line to "release" so I could re-attach it to the carb, and then set the TV cable.
My trans is still lowered a little bit, but I dont think it should make that much of a difference should it? I should still be able to feed it through and such, right?
My next question is in regards to the Shifter cable, right where it connects to the trans. Does anyone have any idea where the linkage connects to the bracket on the trans?
I can put it before the bracket and then when I shift up from 1st gear up to Park. But then from Park going down, it doesnt hold and just throws the assembly away from the bracket.
And it's vice-versa if after the bracket.
This is the best I've gotten it, I'm curious if this is how it's SUPPOSED to look, and be connected?
Thanks in advanced

Sellmanb, the TV cable should have some slack in it, and when you pull on it, you should be able to feel it moving the valve in the trans (there will be some resistance). It should be further out than in your pix.
As far as the shifter cable, it should lock into the bracket. Sounds like either the ears where the cable goes in are broken, or almost like your bracket might be bent where the cable locks into it.

Thanks for the responce Lo-Tec.
I was afraid of that.
Is it possible for me to just be too blatantly dumb to figure out how to put these on correctly?
What is the proper method for installing these pieces?
I dont REMEMBER breaking off any ears, but I did end up dropping the trans down a bit too much before I realized I needed to unhook the TV cable and Shifter cable. I didnt think it stretched them that much though, but I can be wrong.

For the TV cable, get a helper. Unbolt the cable from the trans, and unhook it the from the thing inside the trans. Hold the hook end of the cable while having a helper pull the other end that hooks to the carb. Make sure it moves freely inside the cable housing. Grab the piece coming out of the trans, and make sure it moves also. Hook the cable back up to the piece in the trans, and have a helper pull gently on the other end of the cable while you slide the cable housing into the trans (to remove any slack in the cable). Hold the cable housing tight to the trans while your helper checks for proper operation of the TV cable before you put the bolt back in.
edit-just measure TV cable on a spare trans. should be about 2" of the actual cable exposed without any tension on it.
For the shifter, I would remove the bracket from the trans...it looks like it is bent (looking at it from the side) where the shifter cable locks into it. If so, straighten it and see if the cable stays put.

I'm having problems wiht my tranny cable. I put it on wrong I believe. I put it on in PARK (shifter) with the transmission part of it pushed all the way forward. I only assume that was correct, and didn't bother to check anything. Well, when I started up my car IT TRIED TO ROLL OFF THE JACKSTANDS because the rear is on the ground and the front us up in the air. So I tried to shift it and it only goes from P to N, which probably means it's really only shifting from 2 to 1 when I really do that. What did I mess up?

I had the same problems, bought a new cable.
The "ears" of the cable locking mechanism would not grab the bracket. The bracket was almost perfectly level (verified) and wouldnt grab. i installed the cable in the bracket and use a small flat screwdriver and lightly spread the ears, and that helded lock it. Installed 2 zipties through the inside of the ears around the bracket to ensure they dont go back down
Are you sure you have the spring in that little hole on the cable (for the TV cable)?

do you mean the hook that goes around the "bead" end of the TV cable going into the tranny?
If so, yes I am sure. The cable moved fine before I put it on, and it was a PAIN to get right. Then it wouldnt move. I assumed that it was due to the adjuster holding it there or something. But now that I think about it, the adjuster thing shouldnt have any way of "clamping" onto the cable, so the cable must be stuck.

Hook the TV cable to the carb, and then pull the rod out of the trans and hook it to the cable. You need tension on the rod coming out of the trans so the two don't come apart.

Thanks Lo-tec, a picture is worth a thousand words!
You wouldnt happen to have another picture of what the shifter cable bracket is SUPPOSED to look like? So I can bend it back to what it's supposed to be.
