First, make sure that everything is working in good order. I was in the same spot as you.

The TBI engines have a hard time getting them to idle. thats about it. knock on wood.

good luck and tell us on the progress.

i'd say go with a set of edelbrock t.e.s. headers and a good cat back like the edelbrock, flowmaster, dynomax, etc. cam is a bit pricey as a starter. you may want to get a decent aftermarket chip for it such as a jet stage 2 or fast chip. maybe a set of pullies, etc. i wouldn't recomend going with the air gap since your stock tbi isn't exactly a bolt on to it without an adapter and your not flowing enough air yet to need it. as i've heard, before you crack the safe work on the combination. simple bolt on's first.

Welcome to thirdgen.org, Speed.

You should really talk to people on the TBI board to see what kind of cams they are running, I think that if you are going to swap you may as well put something a little more aggressive in. .427 is pretty low lift.

A cam is pricey? I paid 180 dollars for my cam.. my cat back cost $600 and my headers cost $325(ceramic coated edelbrock, thats a damn good deal too).

I would highly reccomend all of the free mods you can find, learn how your car works... Try the TBI board, I've heard of some open air element mod that people see a sotp difference from. A performance tune up would be a good idea too. You can replace most of your ignition with something like MSD, Accel, Mallory, Taylor, etc. Good luck, have fun, and post often!

welcome to thirdgen.org. sorry to say there were no RS camaros in 88, the SC had the ground fx starting in 88, in 89 the SC was dropped and the RS became the base model and the IROC was the hot rod.

my posting of the cam being pricey was pointing out that it's an expensive place to start especially when he may be able to run a larger cam later on than he could right now in stock form. the average price for a roller cam is normally well more than 180 bucks and that doesn't include gaskets and timing chain.

It depends: are you planning on keeping the car and eventually putting in a bigger engine? On my car, 91 305 TPI, I went from 15.9 to 14.5 without even touching the engine. I put in a 2500 stall, headers, 3" exhaust, and 3.73 gears. All these parts are compatible with my soon-to-be-installed 350. I just figured that if you plan to keep the car for a while, then your money would be better spent on something other than components for the engine. Of course, a set of 1.6 rockers would help the cam out a little, and you could put them on a 350 if you decide to go that route.
