Mine had the same problem a couple of weeks ago.
I had to replace my starter and the dizzy and coil...

As for the damage, you should be able to make the company that towed you pay for it.
I had to have mine towed as a result of this problem...tow operator screwed up so I got a free tow and my front gfx repainted (needed to paint it anyway, but with their carelessness, I'll take the free job) all for their cost - $1000

As long as you can get the driver/company to admit responsibility, you should be able to get them to pay. Threaten that you'll go through insurance, worst case...

Sorry to hear that. Good intentions I guess...

Dizzy = distributor. I see you got a new cap. Maybe you want to check the internals - rotor, coil, etc... - check the plugs themselves (I would check plugs first).

I'm no pro, so don't go blowing your money on anything just yet. But I think that is the right direction so it will at least get you started. I think it has to be distributor related.

I had a problem similar to this, turns out my rotary button inside the distributer cap had broken loose, and was spinning cutting my distributer cap to hell. (Best way I know to explain what happened)

If it is not dented, why not just get some rubbing compound and buff it out?

Check the pick up coil, check the resistance on your fuel injectors, if they go bad it can burn up the ecm and then there will be no reference pulse to initiate spark. You could also get a noid light and check for injector pulse.
