I'm not sure about springs, but make sure you get new lifters if they don't come with the cam. I don't see why the 700R4 wouldn't be able to handle the increase in HP, I believe they can handle around 300hp. Depending how many miles are on your car, it would also be a good idea to get a new timing chain.

You will need new lifters and with that much lift new springs couldnt hurt. The main problem you will run into is the stock computer. Without changing the chip you may have some problems with idle.

You definatly don't need new lifters as long as you're originals are rolling along happily. New springs are a must, and since the retainers are going to hit the valve guides, you might as well have them machined down for screw in studs and guideplates, for the simple fact you may want to install 1.6 RR later on (They may bind in the stock pushrod holes) Another good addition is positive valve seals on the intakes (since they have to mill them down anyway) and fresh umbrella's on the exhaust.

The retainer hits the guide @ about .480" or so of lift and the spring starts to bind in the same neighborhood. Get them machined for the larger springs. A stock motor runs very well with the ZZ3 cam, It was my first mod and while keeping stock manifolds it still made quite the improvement, problably the biggest single gain.

In my honest opinion that's a little too much cam for a stock 305. I had a .480 in, .487 ex, 206/212 dur, 110 lobe sep. I also had 3.73 gears and a 2500 stall. Overall the car didn't run any faster. Most people told me this was because the cam was too big for my setup.

My bad, it did it on a 350, not sure about being too big on a 305.
