13's with only free mods, can it be done?

Has anyone thought about a 13 second third gen. with only free mods. Okay even with very little spent. I know nothing is free. So lets see. What about a gutted cat (free), serious weight reduction (free), Maf screens (free), custom ram air (almost free), ported plenum and runners (gaskets and dremel bits), ported and polishied heads (gaskets and bits also), change timing(free). The only money I see is head gaskets, intake gaskets, plenum gaskets, and dremel bits. very low cost are 13's possible and are there anymore free or low cost mods out there?

by the way you would have to have a 350 tpi to start. I would imagine. I am wondering this because I have an 88 tpi 350 Gta.

Yeah, 13s can be done. Assuming you steal the parts :P I dont know, just try boosting your fuel pressure way up and stuff for now.

Serious weight reduction will put any car into the 13's... however even aluminum frames weigh something...

I don't know anything about 350's (myself being a V6'er)... but I'd think you'd at least need a cam or NOS.

I think it can be done if you have new tires and the right gears. Without those it might be better to shoot for 100 mph across the line. Then its just a question of power and takes traction out of the equation.

Maybe, if u have 1 of the L98's that came stock running 14.1-14.2, which they don't always do, u probably would be able to.

If you had a strong running L98, a good solid tranny and 3:23 or 3:42 gears I'd say it's possible. Port the intake, plenum and runners, do some weight reduction, borrow some drag radials and skinnies, drop the front sway bar etc.
The only mods I had on my 13.81@98.96mph L98 motor was pulleys and adj FPR. I had a home made cold air, dropped the front sway bar etc. I did have some suspension mods that helped get me the 1.96 60ft.

If you can port the sh*t out of the heads and intake, drop anything not used for racing out of the car, hack off most of the exhaust, and put a quarter or two in the FPR then you got a shot at hitting 13's. And It'll only cost you $.50 if you have the tools . Oh yeah.... gaskets too. Bald *** tires would help too as long as they don't blow out on you. You won't be emissions legal, the car won't have a lot of luxuries (A/C, power steering, back seats ). Also bald tires suck in the rain (not to mention they're illegal) If you want to keep this car emissions legal and have it as a daily driver your probably going to have to spend a couple bucks to compensate for the weight and luxuries. But if you can port, do it, you'll probably see the most results there. If your going to put the pedal to the metal on this car or any F-body I'd lay down the cash for subframe connectors. Although they are some of the coolest looking cars ever made, these unibodies are ****ty. Everyone I know without 'em that hammers on the car has stress fractures, tweaked frames and popped T-Tops. Its worth the money IMHO. Sorry for the long post. Just my $.02

use pennies to bump up the fuel pressure and save the $.48 difference for gaskets.

Home workshop cold air intake, increased fuel pressure, home ported intake. Sounds pretty good to me.

LOL...I guess if you really want to save pennies would do. I can't remember what monetary denomination actually fits in there but theres one that fits pretty nicely. Don't know if its a quarter or a penny but use the one that fits the best. To BahamutRS: That is how you bump up the fuel pressure. It doesn't matter if your fuel pump is stock or not. Fuel pressure is controlled by the Fuel Pressure Regulator (FPR). Its a little black cap looking thingy under the plenum with a vacuum line coming out of it. To bump up the fuel pressure you can replace it with an Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator (basically the stocker with a screw and metal disk), or just put some coins in the stocker. Each coin you put in bumps up pressure a few PSI, if you want to be exact get a gauge. And if you'll spend money on a gauge you can buy an AFPR or make one yourself. Just make sure that you relieve the fuel pressure in the system before you do any work to it. This is VERY important because fuel ignites easily and you won't want to have fuel pissing all over your garage if you have anything electrical near by.

Take out your whole interior except drivers seat, break out the hole saw and go to work making the car look like swiss cheese then I gaurantee 13's with all the free mods done. Or you could always go mow the someone's lawn for a year and get some headers.

Last time I went to the track I recorded a 14.01@101mph. That's with only a few free mods, k&n's, cat-back exhaust (flowmasters), afpr(set at 50) and new goodyear gsa's on the back. I'm expecting to get no lower than a 13.7 when I go to the track in a couple of weeks.
