The only advantage I know of is that firebirds are usually more aerodynamic. However, I like the looks of Camaro's better.

this is going to be a bais bunch of responses. those people with camaros are going to recommend them and those with firebirds will recommend their car. Maybe not, but this is how I foresee it. If it were me, go camaro.

3rd gen 'birds = better looking in my opinion.
;-]
1st generations of either are equally nice.
2nd gens = firebirds all the way, big roaring firechicken on the hood, hell yes.

I had an 85 IROC and now have an 88 GTA. both very nice cars. they both are very much the same. Although there are more Camaros. the only thing I don't like about the GTA is the Stupid headlight problems. They are fixed now but I am sure they will come back.

Both the Camaro and Firebird are great. The Firebird definately has a sleeker more refined look and i like its interior. What i don't like about the firebird is the 3rd class worksmanship and the many stupid little problems it has. Both suffer the from the same performance deficiencies.

Buy which ever is in the best condition you can find.
Mechanically, they are virtually identical. Firebirds (TPI) have a different intake which some manuals say cost you 5 HP. The difference is miniscule as a good launch EASILY makes up the difference.
When these cars were new, Pontiacs tended to have more options stock or as part of package. But you can get almost everything on a Camaro to; it is just that it was often an option so if you want a particular option you may have to search a bit.
Because Pontiacs tended to have more options as standard, they tend to way more. But the L98 Formulas were generally "strippers" and tended to be the lightest of the F-Bodies while the L98 GTAs generally came fully loaded and tended to be the heaviest.
My GTA is actually quite light (3,410 lbs) and lighter by almost 100 lbs over a friend that has an 89 IROC. So even that doesn't quite hold true.
I am actually looking at another 3rd Gen to turn into a racer. My only requirements is for it to have a V8 (preferably warn out as I will toss it and replace it with something more potent) and a 5 speed (which I will toss and replace with a 6 speed most likely). The only other criteria I have is for the body and interior to be in good shape. It doesn't matter to me whether it is a Camaro or a Firebird. There the same as far as I'm concerned.
PS: This post should really be locked as there is nothing technical about this post. All this does is start fights. This post is up there with "which is better blondes or redheads"? I've seen some pretty ones with either color of hair and I've seen some pretty homely ones too.

i think i deleted this once before so now i'll just lock it. it contains nothing to do with tech and adds nothing to the content of the tech board. if you want to post non tech please go to macgyvers board at www.nethirdgen.org thanks
