engine bogging on takeoff
I have an 87 T/A with a 305 TPI. When I take off from a light or accelerate the motor bogs down & surges, it only does this when you give it 1/4 throttle or less. The engine takes off fine if you give it full throttle. It also bogs when you give it part throttle to maintain speed.
Anybody got any ideas.

im facing the same exact problem right now but with a 2.8 dwillis pointed me to the egr valve as he had similiar problems and that fixed his i will do the same you should give it a shot i think althought its alot easier to check out for you so def give it a shot just disconnect the vacuum going to the egr and plug if runs better then thats it i have to take off my plenum tho to check this out but definately worth it if it fixes it considering im car-less right now lol (relying on the ole 95 zx6r) good luck man

Are you plugging the EGR Valve itself or the line coming off the EGR valve?? Need to plug the line you pull off the EGR. Thats what he done and do you want to talk about a difference, it went from chugging and sputtering on easy take offs to running smooth and from sluggish hard take offs to tire smoking take offs.

Thanks for the responses. I found the problem the hard way, the fuel pump died!!! I will replace it this week & will be off & running. As for disconnecting the EGR instead of fixing it you can run into trouble. This can make your car run hot & cause driveability problems. Find out if it is the EGR valve itself or the selonoid. You can probably put vacuum on the EGR to see if it is working. You can put a vacuum guage on the line from the selonoid to check it.

figured out my problem with ALOT of help from 8mike9, thanks again man, it turned out to be a short in my car alarm that the t00l who i bought the car from put on i disconnected everything that had to do with the alarm, and put new fuses where they blew, also tapped with a screwdriver on the egr solenoid (read on a forum somewhere this worked) and wala when i started my car all my troubles went away along with no more burnt up fuses, me so happy
btwthanks guys for the replys

I kind of thought the same thing. I am going to check it out today. I'll update what I find.
